FILIPSTAD MUNICIPALITY

More of Life in Filipstad

As the world’s most mineral-rich area, Filipstad has a history and identity shaped by industrial expertise and forward-thinking spirit – a rare blend of forest-side tranquility and entrepreneurial drive. We often say we have 25 hours in a day, because we avoid traffic jams, long waits, and everyday hassle. Here, you truly get more out of life!

Housing That Fits Your Lifestyle

Filipstad offers inspiration and room to breathe. No matter where you live, you’re always close to magnificent nature and unique history – sources of joy and motivation. You can literally live well and affordably – in a central apartment or house, in the countryside on a horse farm, or close to nature and lakes. Build something new or find the renovation project you’ve been searching for. In the new residential area Piludden, on the eastern shore of Lake Daglösen, you can build your new life close to the small-town vibe, with nature’s calm as your neighbor.

Year-Round Activities

Quality of life in Filipstad means closeness to both culture and nature, and a wide variety of activities all year round. Visit a museum, explore miles of hiking trails, try your luck fishing by a beautiful lake, get active on the ski tracks at Kalhyttan or discover all the challenging MTB trails. There are also plenty of options for those who enjoy good food and authentic shops with personal service.

In Filipstad, we love getting involved in local clubs and associations where you can meet others who share your interests. Here, neither you nor your children have to wait in line to enjoy a favorite sport or popular hobby.

Leading Industrial Production

Large-scale food production has dominated Filipstad’s business landscape for nearly a century. This is where Wasa crispbread is baked and all the delicious snacks from OLW are produced.

We’re proud of the innovator John Ericsson, who was born here. His groundbreaking creation – the armored, steam-powered warship USS Monitor – was used during the American Civil War in the 1860s. He is honored with a statue in New York, and Filipstad became known as a place of innovation and engineering excellence.

Today, Filipstad has a dynamic ecosystem of specialized companies, where you can be part of the development.

Did you know... Cheez Doodles are produced right here in Filipstad – Sweden’s best-selling snack.
