STORFORS MUNICIPALITY

Loving Life in Storfors

The rustle of trees, kayaking, and sand between your toes. A daily life where chats with neighbors happen over the fence or at the shared barbecue area. Maybe you’re looking for a place where you can become a valued part of the local choir, theater group, motocross club, or crafting circle. In a small municipality, community means everything – and Storfors is a place where both residents and business owners feel a strong sense of safety and belonging.

A Safe and Pleasant Place to Live

Whether you live in the town center or in the countryside, you’re always close to water. In the town, there are quiet residential areas with houses close to services, preschools, schools, and leisure activities. The Björkåsen Foundation offers around 400 apartments, including in the Strand area, located right next to the school and close to the swimming area. Commuting to several nearby cities is easy and convenient.

In the municipality’s villages, you’ll find farms and houses. In Kyrksten, near Karlskoga, there are residential homes, a preschool, and a youth center. In several areas, holiday homes are gradually being converted into permanent residences, such as in Sävviken. At Herrnäset in Bjurtjärn, a zoning plan is also underway for around 20 new lakefront plots.

Community Life That Brings People Together

In the town center, there are plenty of activities and gathering places. Storfors Culture House features a cinema, library, and spaces for dance, a culture school, and a café. The newly built Jordkullen Arena offers padel courts, a golf simulator, and facilities for judo, a gym, shooting, table tennis, golf, and ball sports. The municipality also has a small, newly renovated swimming pool where water aerobics and swimming lessons are held.

In the villages, there are active community and heritage associations, and in Bjurtjärn, even a parents’ association. They organize holiday celebrations, markets, theater performances, fun runs, children’s activities, and other events. Storfors Parish also offers activities for both young and old, including choirs, children’s programs, weekly cafés, and social gatherings.

Outdoor life is close at hand, with a canoe center, four scenic hiking trails, and soon three cycling routes. In winter, several kilometer-long ice tracks are cleared on Lake Vilången, and there are lighted trails in the town and ski tracks in the forest. In Lundsberg, there’s a nine-hole golf course where you rarely have to wait for a tee time.

A Small-Business Economy

Storfors is a small town with just over 1,000 jobs and several small business owners who have gained national recognition. Many companies operate in construction, earthworks and contracting, mechanical engineering, and the service sector, as well as in skilled trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work. The town also has an active New Business Center (Nyföretagarcentrum) supporting entrepreneurs.

Did You Know... Värmland’s largest island is located in Storfors – but it’s not an island in a single lake. Instead, it’s a land area surrounded by lakes and streams. Storfors has over 500 kilometers of shoreline – many people here live close to the water!
